How much space and power does a DJ need?

Practical advice on power, space and setup — so your venue is perfectly prepared.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get: how much space and power does your DJ set need? The answer depends on the package, but here are the guidelines you can work with.

For a standard DJ set (our Groovy package), you need at least 3 by 2 metres. That is enough for the DJ booth, two speakers on stands and the basic lighting. The DJ is positioned centrally, with a view of the dance floor. In terms of power, one dedicated 16-amp circuit is sufficient — that is a standard wall outlet with its own circuit in the consumer unit.

For a more extensive set (Gold package), we allow for 4 by 3 metres. Moving heads, a laser and a fog machine are added. The lighting effects need space to work properly. In terms of power, we recommend two dedicated 16A circuits, preferably on separate phases. This prevents fuses from tripping when everything runs simultaneously.

For custom productions or larger events, we create a tailored technical rider. This includes exact power requirements, setup dimensions, weight loads (for truss constructions) and wiring diagrams.

A few practical tips for the venue:

Make sure the power connection is within 15 metres of the DJ position. We always bring extra cables, but shorter is better for signal strength.

Avoid extension leads with multiple power strips chained together. This leads to voltage loss and increases the risk of failures.

If the venue has no fixed power connection (at outdoor events, for example), we discuss in advance whether a generator is needed. We can arrange this as part of the quote.

The floor beneath the DJ booth must be flat and stable. Wooden stages or stage sections work well. Sand, grass or uneven surfaces can cause issues with the stability of the speakers and the DJ booth.

We always send a technical checklist to the venue in advance. This way, everyone knows what is needed and there are no surprises on the day itself. Have questions about technical requirements? Check our FAQ or get in touch.

Why we never play a playlist

A playlist is a list. A set is a conversation with the room. That is the difference.

The build-up of an evening that truly works

Going from dinner atmosphere to full capacity is not a coincidence. It is a carefully constructed story.
